Subsequently, the actual ridge splitting is performed using a flat chisel to expand or loosen the jaw ridge. The resulting augmentation surfaces become clearly visible after implant placement. In this example, these augmentation surfaces are generously filled with bone substitute material. After a healing phase of approximately seven months, the significant widening of the jaw ridge becomes apparent.
