Due to the special shape, 180° rotation of the instrument allows four luxation movements, two in mesial and two in distal direction. During the luxation process, the instrument performs 5-7 hypomochlies (rotation and support movements), which makes it clearly superior to conventional levers. The serrated edge of the instrument further promotes dislocation. Axial levering stress on the instrument tips can lead to fracture. Pivot-point instruments are not intended for axial levering use.
